Frequently asked questions

Planning Uncertainties

Straight answers where the facts are clear, and honest caveats where they are not.

Is Plimarosafari a booking service?

No. We do not sell trips, hold inventory or take commissions. The planner helps you think through priorities; licensed operators and camps handle bookings.

What is the best month for a safari?

It depends on your priorities. June to October is dry-season peak across much of Southern Africa and the northern Serengeti and Mara. January to March suits calving in the southern Serengeti. Green season months suit birding and dramatic light. See the wildlife calendar.

Can I count on seeing a river crossing?

No one can promise it. Crossings depend on rainfall and herd behaviour. More days in the right area improve the odds without guaranteeing them.

How many nights should I spend in each camp?

Three nights is a common balance. Two nights often feels rushed once transfers are counted; photographers often prefer four.

Is a green-season safari worth it?

For many travellers, yes. Expect thicker bush, afternoon storms and some closed camps, but also newborn animals, migrant birds, lower prices and fewer vehicles.

What luggage limits apply on light aircraft?

Limits of around 15 kg to 20 kg per person in soft-sided bags are common, but they vary by operator. Always confirm before packing. The packing guide has a checklist.

Should I self-drive or travel with a guide?

Self-driving suits Kruger and Etosha, where roads and rest camps are well developed. Guided safaris add expert spotting, behaviour interpretation and access to off-road and remote areas.

Do I need malaria prevention?

Many safari areas carry malaria risk. Consult a travel health clinic or doctor six to eight weeks before departure for current advice.

Which lens should I bring for safari photography?

A zoom of roughly 100–400mm or 150–600mm covers most wildlife situations, with a wide-angle lens for landscapes and camp scenes.

Are my planner selections stored anywhere?

Only in your own browser. Packing ticks use local storage and are never sent to us. Details are on the cookies page.
